Future star 02/20/2012
Some days are just better then others. In company with 24 other ladies I have invested in this beautiful young stallion Hjálmur frá Ásum. His father is Ás frá Ármóti ( 8,45) and the mother is Gróska frá Ásum ( 8,28) and as you can see he is stunning! He will be 2 years this summer and is already 1,36 cm high and has great movements and a lovely caracter. This weekend we had our first meeting here at Skeiðvellir and what a great group. I am really looking forward to our future meetings when we get together to admire our horse, wich we hope will be a future star. Photo: Hulda G. Geirsdóttir Add Comment Approaching 02/17/2012
Today we were at the field were we have the young stallions and I was hoping for great photos when they would all come running towards me, wild in amazing herd. Well, that did not happen since they were all so curious about the "visitor" the had at the field and they all came walking slowly towards me, then ignored me and passed me ! You can´t always get what you want. We have never had so many horses for training and for sale here at Skeiðvellir as we have at the moment. Many promising stallions are in the stable rigth now with very good pedigree. They are after Orri frá Þúfu, Klettur frá Hvammi, Dynur frá Hvammi, Álfur frá Selfossi and Þorsta frá Garði. We also have good sale horses in training at the moment and usually we get new horses every week, horses that would be suitable for competition, breeding or as riding horse. You can see them all here. On the photo is Flóki that will be 5 this year and Dabbi. Come from the land of the ice and snow..... 01/10/2012
Words that have true meaning today. We haven´t had so much snow here at Skeiðvellir since we moved here. The roads are closed in the surrounding area and the school was closed today. Well our children were not so upset about that :o) I went out and took some photos when the wind was not so bad. My father Siggi out in the snowstorm. Part of our training program is to sometimes let the horses run free a couple of kilometers. We are so lucky here at Skeiðvellir that we have a good large trail on our land so that they can run for ca 10 km with no risk of crossing any roads and cars. The horses really like this and it keeps the spirit happy. I took some photos of them today and they went really wild in all the snow. Winter wonderland........... 12/12/2011
It has been really cold and beautiful weather here in Iceland the last weeks. Today I used the oppurtunitie to take some photos of Fylkir frá Bakka, a four year old stallion with sensational mane and colour. Hope you enjoy them. Spói frá Hrólfsstaðahelli sold to Sweden 11/23/2011
The 1st prize stallion Spói frá Hrólfsstaðahelli has been sold to Sweden. Spói is a great fourgaiter that has a beautiful colour, good gaites and an outstanding character. We are looking forward to see him on the competition track in future with his new owner. My two lovely five year old 10/14/2011
I have been thinking a little bit what people are searching for when they are looking for a future horse. Is it high leg movement ? Yes many would say. Good seperated gaites ? yes would probably most people say. Character ?? Here I would scream out a loud YES!!!. Character is the most important thing in my opinion when I am searching for a good horse. Without a good caracter it is hard to bring out any good things of the horse. On the photo you can see an example of a stallion with excellent caracter. Dagfari is five year old as my daugther Guðlaug Birta and his calm and friendly caracter makes him a perfect horse in my opinion. Note that this is a horse with great willingness and good movements...you can see him on the breedingshow last summer by clicking here Better late then never... 10/03/2011
The 15th of september we got a visit from a reporter from Hestafréttir, one of the biggest horsenews web in Iceland. They took an interwiew with me to hear a bit about what we have planned for the autumn and winter. The interwiew is in Icelandic but it shows a bit how the farm Skeiðvellir looks like. Hope you enjoy it :O) See video Idunn avelsförening in Iceland 09/22/2011
