Last week we invited the children from the preschool Laugaland to come for a visit to the farm to see the horses and have some fun with us and the horses. It sure was a great success, they got to learn about the history of the horse, how the horse was used back in the old days, pet and brush our lovely horse Óríón and then the best part, all of them got to try Óríón in the ridinghall. After the fun in the stable and the riding hall we had hot chockolate and kleinur in the cafe to warm up a little bit. We also had old horseshoes that the children got to paint and bring back home as a memorie from the visit. Great day with allot of smiling faces in the stable.
Our cat Tinni is funny fellow. When I was reaching for the brush he decided that this horse would be a good place to take a rest on, so he jumped up on the back of the horse and found a warm nice spot to relax on. The horse was not sure what to think of this idea since it is young and felt a bit unsecure. But after a while he relaxed and seemd to enjoy having this warm furry thing on his back.
It was a great ending of a succesful horsefarm tour to walk around in Víðidalur and have a chat with some well known riders that are located there. Our first stop was by Siggi Matta and Edda Rún. Siggi has been very successful in both competition and on the breedingtrack showing many horses like Gustur frá Grund, Hvítasunna frá Sauðárkróki, winning B flokkur at Landsmót with Kjarkur frá Egilsstaðabæ and many more horses he had succes with. his wife Edda Rún is also a well known rider and has won many titels through the years. Our next stop was by the legend Diddi (Sigurbjörn Bárðarson). He talked about his breeding at Oddhóll, the breeding in general in Iceland and showed the group his stallion Þórir frá Hólum. He made a great impression on the group with his nice approach to his horses and of course he has allot of humor as you can maybe see on the photo of him and Þórir frá Hólum.
During the autumn and winter we are planning allot of horsefarm tours to Iceland for small and big groups. We can organize the whole tour including all accommodation, transfer, sightseeing, riding tours and also full board. Yesterday our first group for the autumn started their 4 day tour here at Skeiðvellir. This is a group of 22 people from Sweden who will be visiting farms in south of Iceland and is planned and organized by us, in co operation with our good partner in Sweden, Brita Pantzar / Uppleva Resor. They will visit Fellskot, Blesastaðir, Hlemmiskeið, Vesturkot, Austurkot, Gegnishólar, Kjarr, Efri - Rauðalækur and Krókur and get the inside tips from the breeders and riders.
If you are interested in booking a Horsefarm tour we would be happy to assist you with the planning of the tour.
Today we got a very special group for a visit, it was a chorus from Selfoss and they were singing three songs here in the stabel at Skeiðvellir. What a sound and what a plesure it was to hear them sing. Thank you for the visit. You can see one of the songs here below - the famous " þú komst í hlaðið á hvítum hesti". Enjoy :)
