Landsmót special - Two days of riding in the south from Skeiðvellir

After Landsmót 2016 we are going to offer a 2 day riding tour for those who do not have time to spend a whole week riding but still want to see some highlights of the beautiful nature. During this tour you will ride over rivers, green fields and valleys, lava fields and have river, mountain and glacier view almost the whole time.
It is also possible to arrive a day earlier and add extra accommodation after the tour.

We are so grateful for all the people who have been at Ice events this summer for a riding tour. What a season !!! and all the nice comments we have received about our horses and service. It is nice to be able to fulfil the expectations from both riders that have allot of experience and also riders that have less experience. One foal richer...for some minutes

Went to the field today to take some new pictures of the foals, the last days we have had 4 new foals born and it is fun to watch them the first days specially. There were some confusion in the field when the foal from my parents mare Flekka suddenly started following another mare that she though was her mother. Poor Flekka ran like crazy all over the field in search of her foal, she was very worried but it took her then only ca 5 minutes to "steal" her foal back and we could all relax again.

Good start with the first competitions

We have had a great start with our horses for the first competitions. First to mention that Dabbi took part in Meistaradeildin this winter in Tölt with Dagfari frá Miðkoti and they did very well. Irpa delivered in the pace as see always does - she was in fifth place in pace test and second in the 100 m speed pace. This is Dabbis first time in Meistaradeildin and we are happy with the results. That is not their only price for the winter and spring. Dabbi and she also won the 100m speedpass in Hörður, were second in the speed pace in Fákur and Sleipnir. Amazing horse !! ( see why we think so here - video taken last summer )

Then we vent to the big Reykjavíkurmeistaramót with also Dagfari and Yldís. They both did good, Yldís was in B final in tölt. This was her first time in a competition in oval track and Dagfari was amazing and was in 3-4th place in Tölt with total point 7.00

Dabbi is also starting a new horse - Frosti frá Hellulandi that we have good faith in that will become a competition horse in specially fourgait.

The last competition in Selfoss I vent with Yldís and she improved allot and we won our class in tölt with total point of 6.22.

We are looking forward to the summer with hopefully more good results.

FEIF seminar for breeding trainer at Skeiðvellir - What a group

The 7th - 10th of April the 5th FEIF breeding horse trainer seminar was held here at Skeiðvellir. This is the 4th one that we here at Skeiðvellir / Ice Events are hosting and this time we had 23 riders from Iceland, Sweden, Norway, Germany, Switzerland, Denmark, Austria and Netherlands. As always the program is very tight schedule with lectures and practical training. This time for the lectures and training we had the international judges, Marlise Grimm, Friðrik Már Sigurðsson and Elsa Albertsdóttir. Then for the shoeing part, Sigurður Sæmundsson, breeding trainer Guðmundur Björgvinsson to help with the presentation in riding assessment and lecture from young rider Hekla Katharina Kristinsdóttir and panel discussions. The group of riders attending the seminar was truly talented, full with positive energy and eager to learn. The seminar was inspiring as well for us who are hosting the seminar and great to get to know so many future breeding horse trainers.

This years women´s weekend was great - preliminary bookings started for 2016

This is one of my favourite weekends of the year and we are of course going to do it again in 2016 so if you are interested in joining then let us know. This time we had great company from Sweden, Finland, Iceland and Austria. Great company dining, talking, shopping and of course nice horses.

Solar eclipse with horses

In the news here in Iceland there has been allot of talking about the solar eclipse that was here today. Thousands of people travelling to what they think would be the best viewing point to see it, some even buying airplane tickets for a huge amount of money. For me it was very simple how I was going to see the solar eclipse, of course at my favourite photo shooting hill, with my favourite horse Yldís. Hope you enjoy the results.

Great seminar the seventh year in a row

Never a dull moment with this group but they have been coming to Skeiðvellir for a seminar the last seven years. The teachers this time were Ragnhildur Haraldsdóttir and Súsanna Ólafsdóttir and they did a great job with the group. See you again next year.

This and that ...........

I have not quite been doing my job and update the news on our homepage. The last months have been quite busy at the farm. In November we had a leadership in silence seminar with a great group. These seminars are held at the farm 2 - 3t times a year and you can see information about them at www.leadership.is . Later in November we had a successful Men´s weekend that Dabbi was teaching. This seminar we will repeat next autumn and the dates will be advertised soon. We went to Sweden in October to Anna Lena Berg and family which is such a nice place to have seminars. The first days Dabbi was training some of the horses attending the seminar and then we both had lessons during the weekend. In December we all vent to Cran Canary for 2 weeks, a holiday everybody in the family had been looking forward to. There we also meet our Swedish part of the family, my sister Petra and her family which was great - we do not met so often.

In January we started to take in new training and sales horses. Some of them we have already sold and new are arriving almost every week. In February we had a seminar with our friend Tommi Snorra. It was a 10 days seminar with 3 participants so the teaching was intense and nice to see the riders develop.

Next seminar will be the women´s weekend that we are really looking forward to.

Fantastic winter weather

The winter days have been cold now the last weeks here in Iceland with allot of snow. Today was a dream weather for riding, cold, no wind and sun. We used the opportunity to take photos of three of the younger horses in the stable. The mare Yldís frá Holtsmúla, that I am riding is born 2009. Very talented fourgaited mare with super tölt and extra good character. The other brown mare that Dabbi is riding is Heillandi frá Bakka, born 2010. Also a young, talented, big and handsome mare that we look forward to see how she develops. Then in the black and white photos you see Dabbi and the stallion Hárekur frá Sandhólaferju. Talented young stallion ( born 2010) that will be shown for breedingshow next spring.

Planning to put in photos the next week of the horses in the stable, both that we have in training and are on our sales list.
