The time goes so fast these days and it has been a bit cold but can not complain since we have had allot of sunny days and it is now bright until 23.00.
We have got allot of new horses in training and also on our saleslist at the webpage that is updated almost daily now. Last weekend the "team" vent to Reykjavík for a competition. Ási did very well with his horse Reyr frá Melabergi in Ungmennaflokkur, was second in fourgait and in fourth place in tölt. Dabbi and Siggi were riding in 100 m. pace and got 8 and 6th place. Me and Dagfari did not end in the top ten this time but he is young and still learning.
Next week the breedingshow will start in Selfoss and a couple of horses from us will be shown there. Victoria from Austria and Emilie from Sweden have been practicing the mares and stallions to run beside them with good results as you can see on in the photogallery and Ási and Dabbi have been training them. Most of the horses from us will though be shown at the breedingshow in Hella that start in the end of May.

In the photogallery you can see a bit of the daily live here at Skeiðvellir - On the photo is Dabbi and Snjöll frá Egilsstaðakoti, great mare that is on our saleslist. Her photos will be updated the next days since she has improved allot the last weeks.

<![CDATA[First world ranking competiton of the year]]>Tue, 24 Apr 2012 15:54:16 -0800http://www.iceevents.is/2/post/2012/04/first-world-ranking-competiton-of-the-year.htmlPicture
The first world ranking competition of the year was last weekend in Reykjanesbær/Keflavík held by Máni that is the local riding club. Four riders from the farm were competing and they did very well.
I (Katrín) was in b - final with the stallion Dagfari frá Miðkoti in open class ( total score 6,83), very happy with that since it is his second tölt competition and he is only 6 years old. Dabbi was successful and won the gæðingaskeið/pacetest with 6,71 and was in fourth place in the 100m pace test with our promising mare Irpa frá Borgarnesi. Ási won the tölt and was number two in fourgait with his horse Reyr frá Melabergi in the young rider class. At last but not least Siggi Sæm won the 100 pace test on his pacehorse Spori frá Holtsmúla 1. Overal a successful weekend.

<![CDATA[Favorite time of the year ]]>Thu, 19 Apr 2012 04:54:16 -0800http://www.iceevents.is/2/post/2012/04/favorite-time-of-the-year.htmlPicture
The next weeks are definitaly my favorite time of the year. Everything becomes alive again after the long winter, the birds start to sing, grass is turning green, it is bright until late evening and the first foals are born ! This year we will have about 30 foals here at Skeiðvellir and the first one is suppose to come the next days. The pasture with the pregnant mares is very close that sometimes we are so lucky that we can even watch when the they are born. Last summer I was able to film when Frægur frá Eikarbrekku was being born and the name suits him well. Frægur means famous and he got a bit "famous" since many people watched the video.

On Thursday evening a group of twenty-two young riders from ten different countries arrived to Skeiðvellir for a three day FEIF- breeding horse trainer seminar. The seminar started on Thursday evening with a welcome dinner and a presentation of the teachers and the riders.
Early start on Friday morning with Magnús Lárusson and Svanhildur Hall (Úrvalshestar) with lecture about conformation and presentation of a horse followed by practical training. After lunch Agnar Snorri held a lecture about riding assessment and talked about his experience in that field. Then the riders got to watch a demo of a typical breedingshow program that Sigurður Óli Kristinsson performed. The next task was that all riders got a horse to ride in practical training for the riding assessment and afterwards they all got comments form both Marlise Grimm, Sigurbjörn frá Lundum and Agnar Snorri. In the evening there was a dinner in the barn and open panel discussions with the breedingtrainers Hekla Katharina, Viðar Ingólfsson, Sigurður Óli Kristinsson, Agnar Snorri and the judges Magnús Lárusson, Svanhildur Hall, Marlise Grimm and Sigurbjörn. Today everbody got a second chance to improve their riding assessment and got comments again afterwards. Hekla Katharina Kristinsdóttir told about her experince in showing in breedingshows and in competitions both in Iceland and on the WM in Austria 2011.
The last day is tomorrow and then there will be a evaluation of the seminar and a lecture with Siggi Sæm about shoeing a breeding horse. It has been great to watch all these brilliant future riders and I am sure that we will see allot of them in the future on the breedin track. More photos from the seminar will come the next days.

<![CDATA[Future star]]>Mon, 20 Feb 2012 12:54:39 -0800http://www.iceevents.is/2/post/2012/02/future-star.htmlPicture
Some days are just better then others. In company with 24 other ladies I have invested in this beautiful young stallion Hjálmur frá Ásum. His father is Ás frá Ármóti ( 8,45) and the mother is Gróska frá Ásum ( 8,28) and as you can see he is stunning! He will be 2 years this summer and is already 1,36 cm high and has great movements and a lovely caracter. This weekend we had our first meeting here at Skeiðvellir and what a great group. I am really looking forward to our future meetings when we get together to admire our horse, wich we hope will be a future star.

<![CDATA[Approaching]]>Fri, 17 Feb 2012 12:47:15 -0800http://www.iceevents.is/2/post/2012/02/approaching.htmlToday we were at the field were we have the young stallions and I was hoping for great photos when they would all come running towards me, wild in amazing herd. Well, that did not happen since they were all so curious about the "visitor" the had at the field and they all came walking slowly towards me, then ignored me and passed me ! You can´t always get what you want.

<![CDATA[Training is gooing well and many good horses for sale]]>Thu, 16 Feb 2012 11:19:19 -0800http://www.iceevents.is/2/post/2012/02/training-is-gooing-well-and-many-good-horses-for-sale.htmlPicture
We have never had so many horses for training and for sale here at Skeiðvellir as we have at the moment. Many promising stallions are in the stable rigth now with very good pedigree. They are after Orri frá Þúfu, Klettur frá Hvammi, Dynur frá Hvammi, Álfur frá Selfossi and Þorsta frá Garði.

We also have good sale horses in training at the moment and usually we get new horses every week, horses that would be suitable for competition, breeding or as riding horse. You can see them all here.

On the photo is Flóki that will be 5 this year and Dabbi.
